Form: Haiku Region: Wyoming, USA Season: Summer Category: The Earth Kigo: Morning calm. Description: You know that moment between the sun coming over the horizon and the world waking up? This is that moment.
this is a very interesting piece because i'm sort of conflicted by it; there are massive overtones of calm and such, but then there's this really nice undercurrent of past violence, to me at least, like the calm after the storm.
in particular it makes me think of a modern naval battle, modern because of the rather analytical 'six a.m.' bit, and battle because of orange, which while is a sunrise-y colour, makes me think of fire and after-burn, which is backed up by the word 'smoke' and the idea of seagulls flying off in fright.
therefore, i love the juxtaposition of the violence and peace, which to an extent makes me think of the juxtaposition of nature and humanity. all in all, i really like this; there's a warmth to it that's wonderful
