She took one last look--
decorative boulder
he lugged home from work;
mosaic walkway
she wasted her tears and frustrations
trying to polish;
the window
they filled with lovemaking
on nights
the crickets sang loudest--
and blew a kiss
to the ghosts
chattering on the breeze.

She took one last breath--
summer roses
twining around rotting wood beams;
his Old Spice
wafting from the rocker
on the porch;
the heady backdrop of rain
creeping like fog
through windows left open
during a fight--
and picked up her bag,
ignoring the wolf
crying a mourning
as the dream
they'd watered for eight years
crashed to an end.

This is ALSO for the Glory Be! 2014 Swap Meet; this time, I borrowed a few lovely lines from darkskiesangel--

"She took one last look
One last breath
And it ended"

I shuffled the wording around, added in a bunch of stuff, and did my best to make it my own.  I hope that's okay!

Head on over to the Glory Be! Project and jump in if you'd like to participate in our Swap Meet! I know you want to!

You did amazing things with those lines. This is such a tragic story, but there's still that undertone of hope running throughout. :heart:
